"They threaten the American economy at least as strongly as companies here in Europe, and so this tariff conflict must be ended," Klingbeil told reporters. He also stressed the need for "serious and goal-oriented" negotiations with the Trump administration. Klingbeil said both Germany and France want a "fair deal", but if the two countries did not succeed in getting a "fair negotiated solution", there will be "counter-measures". He also emphasized that both Germany and France will remain open with "hands outstretched", but refuse to comply completely in all matters.
