U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell holds a news conference after a meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) to decide whether to raise, lower or maintain the U.S. interest rate. The Federal Reserve is widely expected to vote at its July 29-30 policy meeting to keep interest rates unchanged. But investors will parse the Federal Open Market Committee statement and Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s comments at a post-meeting press conference for any clues to how central-bank officials may vote at their next meeting in September, when the case for cutting rates could be harder to ignore. The federal-funds-rate target range is currently 4.25%-4.50%, and the post-meeting statement, scheduled for release at 2 p.m. ET, isn’t expected to change much compared with the FOMC’s statement in June.
