The Tesla-sales in Canada slumped massively in January 2025 - a decline of around 70 % compared to December 2024. The main causes are the sudden stop of state subsidies for electric cars and significant price increases for Tesla-models. But not only Tesla is feeling the effects, other electric car manufacturers such as Chevrolet and Hyundai are also experiencing a sharp drop in sales.
Why are the Tesla-registrations in Canada falling?
Several factors have led to this significant slump:

Discontinuation of the iZEV program: The sudden suspension of the nationwide e-car premium affected all manufacturers, in particular Tesla.

Price increase for Tesla: Increases in January 2025 led to the loss of additional regional subsidies in Quebec and British Columbia, causing final prices to rise by up to CAD 21,000.
